ROBERT YELTON  (Deceased)

Date of Birth:  November 17, 1921 in La Porte

High School Attended:  La Porte                  Graduated:  1940

High School Honors:  First player from La Porte to make All-State; played defensive tackle; never gave up a single yard in his territory between tackle and end; had one of the great individual performances in the history of La Porte.

College Attended:  University of Iowa           Graduated:  1944

College Honors:  Played 3 years varsity football; as a junior was the only 60 minute player; named to the All-American Football Team 1943.

Special Recognition:  His picture in his football uniform is in the Athletic Building at Iowa University; college authorities felt he had a good future in coaching but he never got the chance; on D-Day in World War II "Stretch" died for his country during the Normandy Beach Invasion.

Mr. Yelton passed away on D-Day, June 6, 1944.
