JIM BYERS

High School Attended:  Evansville F.J. Reitz  Graduated:  1954

High School Honors:  Earned 12 letters - 3 each in football, basketball, track, and tennis; in football, was First Team All-City Honorary Captain 1953; All-Conference; All-State; All-AP and UPI; Scholastic Magazine All-American.

College Attended:  University of Michigan     Graduated:  1959

College Honors:  Played and lettered three years; played both offense and defense as a fullback and linebacker.

Coaching Experience:  Head football coach at Princeton, IN, 1959-1962, with a 16-13-1 record; head coach at Boonville HS 1962-1965, with an 18-12 record; assistant coach at University of Evansville 1965; head coach at University of Evansville 1966-1977, with a 51-50-3 record; retired from coaching after 1977 season.

Coaching Honors:  B Division Champions at Princeton HS 1960; won 4 Indiana Collegiate Conference Championships at U of E; participated in NCAA Division II play-offs 1974; won over 70% of games against other private schools.

Outstanding Players Coached:  John Lidy, Bob Gardener, Joe Gengelbach, Bill Sharpe, Craig Blackford, Randy Mattingly, Gordon Jaffray.

Special Recognition:  Athletic Director at U of E 1977-1998; assisted in forming the Heartland Collegiate Conference and the Pioneer Football Conference; served as president of Pioneer League; member of NCAA Championship Regional Football Committee.
