High School Honors:  Indiana All-American and Indiana All-State Football Teams.

College Attended:  Purdue Unversity           Graduated:  1971

College Honors:  1969 Heisman Trophy Runner-up; 1969 All-American Quarterback and 2-time All-Big 10 First Team Quarterback; first quarterback ever to beat Notre Dame three times in a row; set 24 records; 2-time All-Academic Big 10; Big 10 Medal of Honor; offered Rhodes Scholarship but turned it down to play professional football.

Professional Athletic Background:  Played as a quarterback with the Cleveland Browns 1970-1976 and with the Chicago Bears 1977-1981.

Special Recognition:  Inducted into the Purdue Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame in 1995 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 2006; after leaving NFL, began a network marketing distribution system called Phipps Freedom Line, Phipps Sports Marketing specializing in trading cards and posters, and worked as an agent with Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance; named an NCAA Silver Anniversary Award winner.
