High School Attended:  Portland                  Graduated:  1948

High School Honors:  MVP basketball; did not play football until senior year; captain of basketball and football teams; #3 player for Indiana HS All-Star Team.

College Attended:  Purdue University          Graduated:  1953

College Honors:  Team MVP in football 1952; co-Big Ten football champions 1952; selected to College All-Stars; also played basketball.

Professional Athletic Background:  Drafted in 2nd round by Chicago Cardinals but traded to Cleveland; played for Cleveland 1953-1958; played for Pittsburgh Steelers 1959-1960.

Professional Athletic Honors:  Cleveland won 5 Division Championships and 2 World Championships during his time with team; Pro Bowl selection as a tight end in 1955 and 1956; named to Cleveland Browns 100 Best All-Time Players.

Coaching Experience:  Assistant coach for receivers with Minnesota Vikings 1961-1963; assistant receiver coach with Kansas City Chiefs 1964-1974.

Coaching Honors:  While with Kansas City Chiefs, coached in first Super Bowl; team was defeated by Green Bay Packers; returned to 1969 Super Bowl and beat Minnesota Vikings.

Outstanding Players Coached:  Paul Flatley with Minnesota Vikings and Rookie of the Year 1962; Mike Garret with Kansas City Chiefs and Rookie of the Year 1965; Otis Taylor of Kansas City Chiefs and Rookie of the Year in 1965.

Special Recognition:  Inducted into Purdue Athletic Hall of Fame in basketball and football; inducted into Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame 1998; Portland HS football field named in his honor in 2012.
