Coaching Experience:  Union Endicott HS, Endicott, NY, 1938-1945; Holy Trinity, Chicago, IL, 1946; Auburn University 1948-1950; John Adams HS, South Bend, IN, 1951-1958, with a record of 46-25-3; assistant at University of Notre Dame 1959-1977 working under three head coaches. 

Coaching Honors:  Indiana High School Coach of the Year 1956; Conference Coach of the Year 1956 and 1958; at Adams, won two division titles and one overall championship; at Notre Dame, football National Championships 1966 and 1973; while assistant to Ara Parseghian, teams posted a 91-15-4 record; overall, associated with 114 wins.

Outstanding Players Coached:  Too numerous to mention, but had many high school players who went on to play at the collegiate level over a 17 year span.

Family:  Wife, Odessa; children, Dennis, Sheila, and Margaret.

Coach Murphy passed away June 7, 1994.
