High School Honors: 3-year starter football and basketball; All-County football and basketball; All- Conference football junior and senior years; captain of football team.
College Attended: Ball State University Graduated: 1950
College Honors: Selected All-State in football 1949; starter on 1949 undefeated team at 9-0; lettered 3 years in football, baseball, and track; Baltimore Colts drafted him in 1950 but he did not sign.
Coaching Honors: Had longest winning streak in state between 1956-1958, winning 27 games including over such powers as Marion, Anderson, New Castle, North Central, Indianapolis Howe, Lawrence Central, Tipton, Crawfordsville; first Ball State Alumni Coach of the Year 1957; named Indianapolis News Indiana Football Coach of the Year 1957; Bike Company Century Award winner 1957.
Outstanding Players Coached: David Porter, 3 year letterman at IU; Stan Neal, Ernie Butler, Tom Able, Ray McDonald, and John Stern.
Special Recognition: Started junior high and Little League football programs at Ben Davis; member of Indiana Football Coaches Association and Indiana Track Coaches Association; presented the Ball State University's President's Medal of Distinction in January, 2011; after retiring from teaching and coaching, concentrated on his auctioneering career, becoming known for his "For Crying Out Loud" slogan.
Family: Wife, Mary; daughter, Stacey (husband, Dan, and 3 children); step-daughters, Jacquelyn (husband, James) and Gwendolyn (husband, Danny).
Coach McClain passed away March 18, 2011.
