High School Honors: Captain of City Champs; All-City Fullback; Honorable Mention All-State.
College Attended: Wabash College Graduated: 1936
College Honors: Blue Key Club; captain of undefeated freshman team; 3-year varsity player; captain of varsity team; All-State Fullback in College Division.
Coaching Experience: Assistant varsity football coach at Indianapolis Washington 1936 -1952; head baseball coach for 22 years.
Coaching Honors: Golf Coach of the Year 1974 by Indiana Collegiate Conference while coaching at Butler University.
Outstanding Players Coached: 3 Major League Baseball players - Don Leppert with Pittsburgh, Jeff James with Philadelphia, and Dennis Jent with the New York Yankees; in football, Boris "Babe" Dimancheff and Red Carter.
Special Recognition: President of the Indiana Officials Association for two different terms; football official, starting in 1936; worked high school and college games all over the state; in 1947, started working in Mid-American Conference of which Butler was a member; in 1952, began working in Big Ten and one year was the referee in the Minnesota-Iowa Game that determined the Big Ten and National Champions; worked Indiana and Purdue games; in 1961, joined the NFL and officiated there 14 years; some of the games worked included the College All-Star game in Chicago, play-off game between Baltimore and Green Bay which ended in overtime sudden death, and the championship game between Green Bay and New York Giants; officiated football for 39 years.
Mr. Luzar passed away August 14, 1995.
