High School Honors:  All-City in football, basketball, and baseball; All-State in football and basketball.

College Attended:  Purdue University           Graduated:  1967

College Honors:  Football All-American 1965 and 1966; Big Ten Most Valuable Player 1966; runner-up in 1966 Heisman Trophy voting; won Rose Bowl over Southern Cal 1966.

Professional Athletic Background:  Drafted by Miami Dolphins in first round 1967; became 14th passer in NFL's exclusive 25,000 Yard Club 1980; Dolphins record while he was quarterback was 101-62-3; suffered a shoulder injury which forced his retirement June 25, 1981.

Professional Athletic Honors:  All-Pro Quarterback in 1971 and 1977; received Maxwell Club's Bert Bell Award as NFL Player of Year 1977; played in two AFL All-Star Games; played in six  Pro Bowls 1970, 1971, 1973, 1974, 1977, 1978; voted team's Most Valuable Player six times by South Florida media; his team won Super Bowls VII and VIII; his jersey number 12 was retired by Dolphins in 1982.

Special Recognition:  Inducted into Florida Sports Hall of Fame 1979 and National Football Foundation's College Hall of Fame 1984; among his many civic activities are his service as National Vice-President and National Sports Chairman for Muscular Dystrophy Association and Miami Lighthouse for the Blind advisory committee.
